Baseball
Seattle University Baseball played five games out of their nine-game homestand last week, taking on Washington State March 31, falling to the Cougars 0-10. The Redhawks then took on Portland for a three-game series April 2-4, taking home two of three with scores of 5-1 and 6-2, respectively. Seattle U dropped game three 0-3. They wrapped up the first half of their homestand defeating the University of British Columbia 12-3, April 7.
One player that stood out this past week was Redshirt Senior right-handed pitcher Travis Farrell. Farrell was named the Rawlings West Coast Conference (WCC) Pitcher of the Week after throwing a complete game to lead Seattle U to their win April 2 versus Portland. The righty went all nine innings, only allowing one run with 10 strikeouts. Farrell became the third Redhawk in modern history (2010-present) to throw a complete game. He is also the second Redhawk to earn WCC Pitcher of the Week this season, with Redshirt Sophomore left-handed pitcher Kale Hammer taking home the title just two weeks prior. Farrell holds a 1-4 record and a 4.50 ERA through seven appearances.
The Redhawks will stay home to take on Loyola Marymount University April 10-12 and the University of Washington April 14 before hitting the road to face off against the University of San Diego April 17-19.
Womens Golf
Seattle U Women’s Golf completed their penultimate tournament of the season at the Huntington Bank Collegiate April 6-7. The Redhawks finished 15th out of 17 teams, with Freshman Zoe Rubichon being the lowest scorer for the Redhawks.
Rubichon ended the tournament in 44th place, shooting five over par over the three-round tournament. The freshman shot her lowest score in the first round, finishing even par (72). She followed this up by shooting 74 in round two and 75 in the final round on the second day.
The Redhawks will finish their regular season April 13-15 at the Bobcat Desert Classic, hosted by Montana State University.
Mens Golf
Seattle U Men’s Golf hosted their 11th annual Seattle U Redhawk Invitational March 30-31. The two-day tournament, presented by L.A.B. Golf, took place at the classic Chambers Bay Golf Course in Tacoma, Wash. The team finished sixth, with four Redhawks finishing in the top 25.
The highlight of the tournament came from Junior Kevin Li, who picked up his third top-five finish of the year, finishing in third place out of the 83-man field. Li shot six under par over the three rounds (71, 74, 65). At the end of the first two rounds, Li wasn’t even in the top fifteen, but an immaculate seven under par (65) showing in round three pushed the junior to third overall. This performance puts Li tied for the third-lowest round in program history. Li has had two other top-five finishes this season, coming in second place at the Monterrey Collegiate Classic during the fall season back in October, as well as a first-place finish at the Nick Watney Invitational March 2-3.
The Redhawks are back at it April 10-12 at the El Macero Classic hosted by UC Davis.
