This past week was a tough one for the Redhawks as the Rowing, Track and Field and Baseball teams competed in some of their final events of the year. Rowing and Baseball closed out their seasons with rough losses, and Track and Field raced in qualifiers for NCAA finals with some success.
Rowing

Seattle University Women’s Rowing competed in their first West Coast Conference (WCC) Championships at Lake Natoma in Rancho Cordova, Calif. May 15-16. Kicking the weekend off, each boat raced in Heat 2 of their respective categories Friday morning.
The varsity 4+ and second varsity 8+ both faced Washington State University, Gonzaga University, University of Portland and Sacramento State as their competitors; the V4+ finished with a 9:09.333 2k time and the 2V8+ finished in 7:36.817. The first varsity 8+ raced against University of San Diego, Sacramento State, Saint Mary’s University and University of Portland in their heat, and finished with a time of 7:45.087. All boats placed last in their races.
The second day of racing brought final matchups based on the previous day’s performances. Starting the morning with the V4+, the Redhawks were up against Sacramento State, Creighton and Santa Clara in the Petite Final and ended their race in fourth place with a time of 9:20.557. Shortly after, the 2V8+ placed third against the same schools, finishing their 2k with a 7:35.028 time. The V8+ raced with Portland, Creighton and Santa Clara and finished last with a time of 7:43.429 to end the team’s first WCC season.
Track and Field
Seattle U Track and Field traveled to Newberg, Ore., May 13-14 to compete in the George Fox University Final Qualifier for the NCAAs.
Senior Zoe Tibbo placed first in the Women’s Triple Jump with a 10.99 meter mark, and second in the Women’s Long Jump with a season best 5.45 meter mark finish. In the Women’s 1500 Meters event, Senior Azalea Groleau placed third with a time of 4:34.12, which was her season best time for the event. Another notable achievement for the women include a personal best for Freshman Sierra Swart in the Women’s 1500 Meter (Collegiate) with a 5:00.16 finish.
Sophomore Jeremy Posdon earned first place and his personal best in the Men’s 3000 Steeplechase, completing the event with a time of 9:19.16. Junior Daniel Barreto also earned a personal best in the same event with a time of 9:42.68, coming in fourth place. Overall, the Men’s team ranked eighth at the qualifier with a total score of 25, while the Women’s team ranked seventh and had a score of 34.
Back in Oregon for the Stumptown Running West Coast Twilight May 15-16 in Portland, the Men’s team had a much better showing, finishing second with a score of 60. The Women’s team finished fifth with a score of 21.
In the Men’s 800 meter (High Performance), Sophomore Seku Sanders set a new personal best and new school record with his first place 1:48.70 finish. Fellow Redhawk Freshman Riley Tricas also finished first in the Men’s 800 meter (Collegiate/Open) with a time of 1:54.59. For the Men’s 1500 (Collegiate/Open), Sophomore Porter Buck got second place and a personal best with his time of 4:02.19.
Senior Osaze Demund earned a personal best and placed fourth in the Men’s 800 meter (High Performance) with a time of 1:50.66 and Senior Diego Razo-Castaneda got a personal best in the Men’s 800 meter (Collegiate/Open) with a time of 2:00.01, finishing seventh. Posdon collected a personal best in the Men’s 1500 (High Performance) with a time of 3:55.52 for a 16th place finish.
Freshman Chloe Thompson finished 18th in the Women’s 1500 meter (Collegiate/Open) with a season best time of 5:16.97 and Sophomore Lydia Dale got a personal best in the Women’s 3000 meter Steeple (High Performance) with a time of 11:14.20.
In the 4×400 (Collegiate/Open) relays, Seattle U Men finished first with a time of 3:24.88, while the Women’s team took both second and third place with times of 4:12.85 and 4:29.34.
Track and Field will compete next at the NCAA West Regionals in Fayetteville, Ark. May 27-30.
Baseball

Redhawks Baseball ended their 2026 season in Spokane, Wash., May 14-16, with a three-game series against Gonzaga, the number one team in the conference. The Bulldogs swept Seattle U, ending Seattle U’s season, and the Redhawks fell short of the WCC Tournament.
The first game of the series was cut short at seven innings with the Redhawks suffering a 2-12 loss. Junior utility player Payton Knowles opened the first inning with a lead-off home run, putting Seattle U on the board early. The Bulldogs immediately answered back in the bottom of the first, putting up two runs of their own. The Redhawks remained scoreless until the sixth inning when Redshirt Sophomore infielder Ryder Manale came around to score on a wild pitch. Redshirt Senior right-handed pitcher Travis Farrell received the loss for the Redhawks after allowing nine runs (seven earned) on 10 hits across 4.2 innings.
Game two resulted in another loss for the Redhawks as they fell to Gonzaga once again with a score of 1-5. Seattle U scored their sole run in the ninth inning when Junior infielder Royce Hale hit a home run to deep left field.
Closing out their season, Seattle U had a much closer game but couldn’t pull out a win, falling to the Bulldogs in a high scoring matchup, 13-16. Senior infielder Kenny Rhein and Hale led the way for the Redhawks offense, tallying eight RBI combined. Rhein went 3-3 with a home run, a double and a single, just a triple away from the cycle. Hale and Junior infielder Brandon Stinnett also picked up home runs. Seattle U scored an additional five runs in the seventh inning after consistent scoring from Gonzaga in the previous two innings, making it a one-run game, 10-11. Gonzaga extended their lead by putting up five runs in the eighth inning. Seattle U attempted to make a comeback in the top of the ninth, but Gonzaga secured the win, ending the season for the Redhawks.
