After the Show: Depeche Mode and Young Fathers

I’ve heard the conversation many times. Someone goes to a performance and complains that the person is too old to be performing. I’m of the mindset that if the person performing wants to be performing, then they are not too old. After seeing Depeche Mode this Sunday at Climate Pledge Arena, I can definitely say they still want to be performing and definitely are not “too old” to be putting on a show—and a killer one at that.

One of the first things I noticed was how Dave Gahan, at the spry age of 61, was still  up there cutting a rug in a fantastic pair of heeled boots. Both of the remaining members Gahan and Martin Gore were moving all around the stage and putting on a SHOW. It was fantastic and anyone who says differently is wrong.

Depeche Mode was not the only one who killed it, however. Opening for them was the band Young Fathers, a Lo-Fi, indie, soul, alternative group from Edinburgh, Scotland. I had never heard of them before Sunday, which is a shame, because they were unique, energetic and created a performance that was warm and fun.

Young Fathers was a surprise, but the kind of surprise I welcome greatly.
