This upcoming Sunday, April 20, millions of people from around the world will be celebrating Easter. Although I myself do not plan on celebrating Easter in the more traditional sense—going to Easter mass, eating glazed ham and having an Easter egg hunt with the children of the community—I do hope to get some discounted chocolate bunnies. Pretty sad, right? Regardless, I have complied a list of how adults—more commonly, young university students—can celebrate the holiday (if they are Christian) in the non-traditional sense—enjoy everyone!
As a child, you: Dyed Easter eggs with your parents As an adult, you can: Dye a tank top, t-shirt, skirt, etc. in pastels What’s more relatable to Easter than the lovely pastels? Take that plain white tee that’s just been sitting in your closet and spice it up with some pale pink, light green and robin’s egg blue. It’s a perfect activity for Easter, and gives you some great colors for spring.
As a child, you: Went to Easter mass As an adult, you can: Go to the local soup kitchen What’s better than spending your holiday helping those in need celebrate? Check in with soup kitchens and volunteer banks in the area to see if they need any help for Easter dinner, and
enjoy the smiles, laughter and happiness you encounter by doing something good in your community.
As a child, you: Ate a ton of candy and an extensive Easter dinner As an adult, you can: Utilize Easter ingredients for some healthy and delicious food Take some carrots from the Easter bunny and make some tasty carrot juice. Take those eggs that were about to be dyed to make a delicious and nutritious omelette. Seriously, there are so many options for how to spice up and kick your food into health. Just remember to also get some hot-cross buns for a little treat after you eat.
As a child, you: Went on an Easter egg hunt As an adult, you can: Go on a hunt for some stylish or savory deals You know how I previously said I was hoping to grab some discounted chocolate bunnies on Easter? Truth is, you can too—plus, there are various retail establishments that also feel the need to reward you with savings. So, go and treat yo’ self.
As a child, you: Went to an Easter parade As an adult, you can: Go on a nice stroll When was the last time you walked somewhere without a destination in mind? This Sunday, you can do just that; stroll around Capitol Hill, walk Downtown, walk to Lake Union–the limits are endless. It will be like a parade for your health—even if you are indulging in a chocolate bunny’s ears on the way.
Although any of these options can also be taken on days other than Easter, they will still help create the illusion of your celebration on this Sunday. Or you could just stay in bed with some Half Baked and Netflix and relax the day away. Just remember we still have classes on Monday. Have a great Easter everyone!
